The operation starts when, via VHF, the Pilot reports that a ship is approaching the Berth. Mooring men take their places on shore and the boats near Pier. Once the vessel is close by, the mooring men along the dock and in the mooring boats use the lines tossed from the vessel to berth it.
They do so under the guidance of the pilot, always with the professionalism and judgement that the mooring profession requires—especially in a line of work as dynamic and unpredictable as this. Complementing these operations is our multipurpose boat, OS III, capable of handling a wide range of tasks such as personnel transport, towing, supply delivery, and more.
We comply with the IMO International Safety Management Code and all applicable international and national regulations.
The port is situated at the mouth of the river Quequén, Necochea occupying the right bank and Quequén the left bank, There is an anteport immediately inside the breakwaters and there are 7 operative berths along the riverfront.
On entering vessels are swung in the anteport to enable them to berth bow out ready for sailing. Should this not be possible vessels berth bow in with the need to be swung on completion of loading and the possibility of delay depending on weather conditions.
Quequén Port has two protecting breakwaters, the northern breakwater measuring 572 m and the southern extended on 2006 to breakwater 1594 m, to provide greater protection from the southern swell. The entrance between breakwaters is 220 m and the channel is dredged to average depth of 15,40 m (50 ft) in a width of 120 m.
